Launched in 1997, two Welshmen founded Faustandturdys.com (online tags as [F&T]) centered around the online game Battlefield 1942. The forum originally titled "Faust and Turdy's - no 56k!" revolved around the new broadband and ADSL online FPS gamers for the fastest, low lag online gaming experience.
F&T focused on spirited online gaming and humorous community chat where members would come together to talk about the one thing that all loved - gaming. Using undeveloped text chat and voice chat programs like Roger Wilco and Teamspeak classic beta, online voice chat between members developed into good friends and good games were had by all.
Shortly thereafter, F&T moved into hosting league matches. The community grew at an astounding pace in a very short time due mostly to the well administrated dedicated gaming servers. This encouraged the friendly atmosphere that gained popularity around the community forum as being a place accepting of all kinds of gamer. F&T needed a way to organised due to the massive growth. The forum was rebuilt and a hierarchy was created for members and non-members. Members had the option to become and Admin. Members and non-members who were well recognized quickly became known as "The Regs". The early Regs were often lovingly referred to as "SCUM" and as it grew, those Regs would eventually organize and play together under their own tags as [SCUM].
F&T were successful for many years and continued to offer quality online gaming servers for Battlefield 1942 and several mods such as Eve of Destruction, Galactic Conquest, Forgotten Hope, Desert Combat, Action Battlefield, Battlefield 1918, and Battlefield Pirates. A good game was available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at any F&T gaming server. As the games continued and aged, so did the gamers of F&T. With age comes responsibility in employment and eventually kids. F&T as it was known was no more. The Regs and SCUM had no home. They were surely doomed.
With the end of F&T, The Regs and SCUM searched for a new home with various other gaming communities but all of these were poorly controlled, poorly administrated, and offered nothing beyond posting on a spammed up forum only to be belittled for trying to post discussions of their interests. The Regs returned to real-life and SCUM nearly disbanded. SCUM still enjoyed online gaming, still enjoyed their online community and even still maintained their online friendship. In May of 2005, [SCUM]-Speedy received an instant message:
McPhil0: Dude, do you still have contact with all the old scummies?
Speedy: I’ve got msn addresses, they might be expired though
McPhil0: I have an awesome idea

This might have resulted in playing a game that you love online with other single-serving superficial no-names.
