Aliens Fight Predators Again In 2010

The two baddest aliens in the galaxy square off again next year, as Sega announces a new Aliens vs. Predator title, developed by the team behind the 1999 original.

Forget the sadly under-developed film franchise - a video game is where the two legendary movie monsters first face-off, and a video game is where the battle will continue with the announcement of a brand new Alien vs. Predator video game coming our way in early 2010. While publisher Sega plans on revealing further details at a later date, they have revealed that the developer behind the new title is independent developer Rebellion, the creators of the original Aliens vs. Predator first-person shooter that scared the living crap out of us back in 1999.

While this is very good news, it comes with a small dose of bad. The new Aliens vs. Predator will be the first title released as part of Sega's Aliens franchise, meaning that the eagerly anticipated Aliens: Colonial Marines isn't going to make its original 2009 release window.

"The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us," says CEO of SEGA West, Naoya Tsurumi. "It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming's most cherished iconic titles. By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans."

Well I suppose if you are going to delay one game, announcing the delay along with the announcement of an even better game is one way to ease the pain.

Formats not been confirmed yet so this is PS3 version.

While everyone's been focused on Gearbox's Aliens game, Rebellion's Aliens vs Predator title has slipped beneath the radar. Until now!

Previews of the game have begun appearing in European magazines, and while they consist of little more than a bunch of screenshots, they do manage to reveal that the game is set 30 years after the events in Aliens (the movie), on a planet where Colonial Marines are trying to root out a serious xenomorph infestation. And then, yes, as the name suggests, Predators turn up for a spot of hunting.

As with Rebellion's previous AvP effort, there will be three singleplayer campaigns (one for each race), and it will feature a multiplayer component as well (though details on this are scarce at the moment). The game is due for release in 2010. We can only confirm from the scans that the game is coming for the PS3, though since they come from a PlayStation-only magazine, that's not terribly helpful.

This scan, and info, come from Spanish mag PlayMania, so if you're kicking back on the Iberian peninsula, pick up a copy of the mag and see them in all their glory.

how can sega claim they 1st brought it out in 1999?

Ah,i think i get it..the jaguar version was developed by Rebellion and published by Atari,this one is developed by Rebellion again put published by sega,think they may have just gotten the dates wrong ?
