Battlefield 3

Postby [SCUM] OUTLAW » 04 Feb 2011, 11:19

PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 shooter Battlefield 3 features improved visuals and what developer DICE describes as an "exponential leap" in destructibility.

Game engine Frostbite 2 has made Battlefield 3's existence possible, according to US magazine Game Informer.

"Armed with powerful upgrades like deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility, executive producer Patrick Bach dubs Frostbite 2 'the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games'" reads the website.

Other details revealed this morning: 64-player multiplayer on PC returns, jets make it in and you'll have the ability to go prone.

In October last year DICE went on the record to reassure PC gamers that their version of the game will be just as enjoyable as the console versions. Designer Alan Kerz acknowledged, "PC players have a fear that BF3 will be 'consolized'.

"PC players have their own set of requirements... Anything that feels like it might have been "ported" from a console is going to get flamed hard," he wrote. "It's a damn sight harder to please a PC player, they have higher expectations.

"Battlefield 3 needs an extra bit of special attention on the PC. I intend to give it that attention, tradition and our community demand it."

According to the first teaser trailer, below, Battlefield 3 will launch this autumn.

Meh, it looks alright I guess. The guys at work keep on going on about it but apart from the shininess and extras, it just looks like COD

I could be completely wrong of course, I'll let you tell me Outlaw

Am not so sure myself, after all the new multiformat games that have came out, all of them haven't been that good. First of with the multiformat engine they are all building they have to cater to the consoles limitations, the PS3 and XBOX both are based on old gfx cards, i think the ps3 has a nvidia 7800 based chip and a 360 has a chip based on the ATO X1900, i think.

Then the games have to be dumbed down and shoe horned onto the console and the controller Crysis 2 is a good example of this, playing Crysis 1 and 2 you can see the difference and feel the difference in mechanics, Crysis 2 is good but it caters for the COD generation e.g , in Crysis you could take a full clip from almost anything if you armoured up , not it doesnt matter, a lot of the depth that suit had has gone and it does feel like you are playing a cut down version of the game. If you've never played the first one then you would be none the wiser.

Homefront is what i am playing atm, its fun ,looks shite but play reasonably well, there are problems with it and it does feel rushed but it's what i have been enjoying.

As for BF3, the multiformat worries me but the tech behind the game looks like it has a lot of potential , if the PC is the lead platform then it could be the next stage of FPS, the bit where the marine fires the RPG at the building to get the sniper is one of the money shots, with the new Frostbite engine that means even more destruction..TBH i really enjoyed Bad Company 2, i had some fun on that :)

It's been confirmed as having 64 players dedicated servers but whats needed is more info on multiplayer and it could be a winner.

I think it's out in November, same time as the new Call of Duty so we have time to bask in the bullshit and see if it's worth getting a dedicated server, upgrade our pcs and wish for a return to CTF with helis and planes !

I'll update this thread when i get info as usual.

I'm really happy to read 64 player is available. You'd think after 10 years they be able to sort NetCode to handle 128. Need more to pwn! ...or not.

Seriously, I think this will be a good one.

There is a 128 player Forgotten Hope 2 server so there is no excuse for not having 256 players by now!

Is FH2 still popular? If so I'd be up for installing that again.

It has a near full 64 player server most of the time and at peak hours there are quite a lot of active servers. They are working on the Battle of the Bulge maps atm. So it should be awesome.

When did you last play it? Have you played the Normandy maps?

is this FH or FH2? FH was pretty awesome. Once I finish the move I think that's going to be my standard until BF3 a ready.

Sure, I will play BC2 but I've been moving all day and still not done. The truck rental company fucked up and gave me a 14-footer instead of the 24-footer like I need so he I am, trip number 3!

I'll grab a game next week for sure. I'm in gaming withdrawal. Plus I'm upgrading! :king:
