Crysis Warhead announced exclusively for PC

Postby [SCUM] OUTLAW » 05 Jun 2008, 14:50

Electronic Arts and Crytek today announced Crysis Warhead - the parallel story to Crysis, one of the most critically-acclaimed first person shooters and PC games of 2007. Shipping exclusively for the PC this fall, Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek's Budapest studio, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek's CryENGINE 2 technology.

8800 GT/9200 GT/ 9800 GT
Intel C2D E6550 or AM2 dual core (any favour)
Add a good sound card to pull some of the strain from the CPU
4GB (2GBx2 modules) PC2-6400

You can part out a quality kit in a MicroATX format that'll play it just fine for well under 1400 quid and have room for upgrading down the road.

Don't play the PC game. Buy smart on the front end. Spend a lot on the motherboard so you don't have to change your system base for 4 to 5 years. Cut corners on your CPU, Video Card, and go moderately on the memory to save money.

Be Smart, Buy Smart...

And they've just been moaning about piracy being too rampant on the PC and they wouldn't release anymore PC onyl games. Go figure.

On a side note I can run the game at 1280 with everything on very high using a 8800GTS and Q6600.

1400 quid for 5 years with only minor upgrade costs (one video card and one CPU) is a bargain for the usable life time of a computer.

if you want a single use item, don't buy a PC, but if you want a gaming center, media center, productivity center, communication center, development center, etc... - a Personal Computer is your only route until the console offers an office type application, illustrator ap, etc... A PC is a multi function center for all your needs from gaming, to autoCAD, to dev, to production, to all cyber needs with a selection of application. You aren't squeezed into a standardized format offered by one company for one type of user. A console will never be as dynamic as a Personal Computer.

Now if your looking for a fast game online or single player mode reguardless, then a console is a great option, but the PC will always be the best selection for multi-usability for work, hobby, and games. EA knows this which is why they are putting out the next Crysis on PC format.

Moreover, Atari is beta testing a new .exe wrapper on the Neverwinter Nights 2 :: Mysteries of Westgate Game Pack to be released in July. Atari has pushed back the release date from late May to now late July to make sure they have weight behind their words. Atari is saying this will be the first exe wrapper that can't be decompiled and will protect the EULA 100%. Time will tell... Is PC game and application hackability going to be a thing of the past? We'll see how Atari fairs later this summer.

Press Release
Find Out if You Are ‘Psycho’ Enough This September

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Crytek GmbH announced today that Crysis Warhead®, the pulse-racing new installment of the Crysis® universe, will ship to retail stores in North America on September 16th and in Europe on September 12th. Beginning today, gamers can pre-order Crysis Warhead at the EA Store (www.eastore.com/crysiswarhead) for only $24.95; $5 less than the full retail price, or receive $10 off when purchasing both Crysis Warhead and Crysis. Crysis Warhead recently recognized by IGN PC as being the Best First Person Shooter and showcasing the Best Graphics Technology of E3 2008.

“We think Crysis Warhead is going to offer a tremendous experience to a wide range of gamers,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “Fans of Crysis are going to enjoy more of the open-ended gameplay, cutting-edge visuals and huge, epic battles from the first game, while also finally finding out what kind of havoc Psycho was wreaking on the other side of the island.

At the same time, we designed Warhead to be more accessible for gamers new to the Crysis franchise. It is a game with a story that can stand on its own, it has been optimized to run better on a wider range of PCs, and we are introducing Crysis Wars®, a tailor-made experience for multiplayer gamers within the Crysis universe – all at a great value.”

Crysis Wars features three multiplayer modes, including TeamInstantAction, a new match type that mixes fast-paced action in a team-based environment, in addition to the insanely frenetic gameplay style of InstantAction and the hardcore team-based PowerStruggle, both of which return from Crysis. The game will include 21 maps, six new maps for TeamInstantAction and InstantAction, and one for PowerStruggle and Crytek will also have a support team dedicated to meeting the needs of the Crysis Wars community.

A brand new trailer for Crysis Warhead will premiere exclusively on “GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley” this Friday, August 15th on Spike TV (check your local listings) and will be available online at www.GameTrailers.com immediately following the show.

Crysis Warhead is a standalone title and does not require the original Crysis to play. The game has been rated ‘M’ for Mature by the ESRB and ‘16+’ by PEGI. For more information about the game, please visit the game’s new web site launching today at: www.crysiswarhead.com.

Crysis Warhead Gets A 60-70% Performance Boost From Modders

Hey, if Crytek won’t do it properly then modders will surely get to it sooner or later. Master from the crymod forums has created a performance config. What the hell is a config? If you are not satisfied with the current graphic settings, you can edit your/create your own configuration file to play Crysis Warhead with. This will allow you the user to be very picky in exactly how you want your game to look. Of course the average gamer will have no freaking clue on how to do this which is why community modders like Master cut us the slack, and complete it out of generosity. The performance boost config is reported by the creator to improve your gameplay by adding up to 60-70% more frames per second. This was reported on Enthusiast (highest settings). Other users have indeed reported an increase in frames per second, but the results have varied. We ourselves have yet to try this out, but if you are in dire need of both good graphics, and a performance boost this might just be for you. Check out the comparison screenshots after the jump!

Looking forward to giving this a go. My specs ran Crysis at about 20-25fps, on (almost) top settings, so this should run fine. However, what's with the 15Gb install? Madness.

Ok,

So I got the game today, about midday. I've just finished it, having had a four hour break halfway through (on normal mode). Will play again on Delta - it seems a lot easier than Crysis was on Normal. You can literally run and gun 85% of the game.

The game itself runs about the same, but the amount of enemies you face at any one time seems to have increased; where once you may face 3 or 4 you will now face 7 or 8.

Give it a go anyways, its a nice break from CoD, heh.
