Firebug and a few other dev tools were making it really crap for me so I turned them off and it's now fine.

If you're running Firefox, Vista x86 or x64, and Zone Alarm Firewall, your browser will lock up when zone alarm tries to do it's update checker. Skype will lockup as well.

Solution:
1. Uninstall zone alarm
2. Configure Zone alarm to ask for permission to contact zone labs first, then decline it from doing so until you are able to reboot your computer.

Currently, Zone alarm only supports Firefox 3.1. If you are using a newer version of Firefox, zone labs recommends uninstalling and rolling back to FF 3.1.

Currently, Vista x86 or x64 is not supporting Firefox 3.5.

I use Comodo m8. I have been having problems with ff for a while now but I do have about 10 plugins installed.

I only use it for site work. Prefer Chrome for browsing :)

Comodo security suite has the same issues mate. Do not use the latest version of firefox with any modern firewall other than default windows firewall which as you know is like a condom with pin holes.

The new IE8 has an 'update' thing which just happens to 'fix a bug in firefox' for you aswell. Downloading IE8 can kill your firefox.

This the reason? It is fixable if this is the case :eh?:
