Tommee is right that data can be pushed to the edge for interpretation to benefit most agendas, however the topic of global warning is extremely complex. Case and point - it's not your regional weather that is concerning scientists you tools, it the overall warmth of the globe that is causing the underlying issues!!! Read a book people. Your regional weather is influenced by your local atmosphere and not the entire affect of the globe. Ice still freezes at 0C but it the ground temp is colder because of under ground conditions which is common when a heat vacuum is hit with a low pressure area, then snow can fall at a higher temp. Moreover, snow can fall with a higher ground temp if the atmospheric high pressure zone moves in quickly and bring north wind with it.

Don't listen to the idoits on the topic of global warming. The data is unclear because we only have a limit amount of data; HOWEVER, if global warming is real, then reducing, reusing and recycling will only help and it's a smarter way to live. You hurt no one living that way. New Orleans might have more to share with you. Perhaps Sumatra and Sri Lanka might have strong personal experiences to share on the topic.

Read more peer reviewed articles on the topic of global warming for clarification and not fluff.

To be honest there are so many areas of this topic I can only hope to understand by actually working in the field. Like you McPhil I choose to be economical because it doesn't hurt me to put in the extra effort. I'm still on the fence but I've read papers that say things to compliment this article. I've also read papers that prove that we are the direct cause. I don't think any of us really know what is happening and whether it's natural or effected by us because the entirety of research done on the subject is still very small. We won't know what's true until it happens (and I think I saw something about risk management on TED that proved no matter what, we should be being environmentally concious). The data can be used to sway the argument each way, but it's interesting to now see a stronger case for the alternative theory side now breaking through into mainstream media.

My greatest fear is that legitimate, noble environmental pursuits will be sidelined by some pseudo-science political agenda. I want less pollution, more trees, smiles und sunshine! What I don't need is some hippies using bad science that leads to the starvation of millions or denying the developing world the opportunities we have. We need to be smarter and not just reactionary calling for a return the good old days when everyone lived in a straw shack and subsistence farming.
