Help needed
Ok so I need help it seems.
I left my Pc burning a film while I went to work. When I got home I saw that the film had burnt ( disk tray was open ) and the Pc had gone into sleep mode. ( blue status light on front of Pc was flashing ).
Because I wasn't going on the Pc when I got in I flicked the power switch off at the wall, so I turned off power to my PC while it wax in sleep mode...
Folowing so far? Lol
an hour later I came to use my PC. I switched power on at the wall and then powered up the machine, I heard a long beep followed by 3 short beeps ( 4 total ) from the mo'bo during startup. Nothing was displayed on the monitor but the Pc seemed to sound as if it booted up fine. I just had nothing on the monitor.
So I powered down with the power button then re-powered up, this time everything booted up normally and I used the Pc for half an hour before it powered down by itself, it just cut out. . .
Now I get the same 4 beeps as before and no graphics output.
I have tried removing the gfx card and cleaning the pins but it doesn't help.
Am wondering if it's a corrupt driver issue as there may have been a problem with the way I powered down while in sleep mode...
Any thoughts? ? ?
Oh and now wheni try to power up I get 4 beeps, no display and then the Pc self powers down...
***UPDATE***
Went out and bought a cheap Nvidia 8600 GT (£25) whiped out the old one and put the new 8600 in and all works fine. no beebs, no errors and i have display back.
im guessing this leaves me with two causes (Phil spank me if im wrong)
1 - old drivers are kaput! so i could try rolling back and then switching cards back...
2- my beauty 8800 is D E A D... if so, RMA its arse back and get a new one... :)
McPhil i call for your input. ( but not in my arse )
***U P D A T E 2***
Removed all display drivers and re tested the 8800, no change.
This leaves me to believe that the card has become faulty and its time to return it. hopefully its still under warranty.

Re: Help needed
The beeps are the motherboard bios code trying to tell you what's wrong. I don't know which bios you have so here's the general trend.
1 long beep, 3 short beeps
IBM BIOS: Enhanced Graphics Adapter Error. Replace Graphics Adapter.
AMI BIOS: Memory Chip Error. Attempt to Reseat the memory chips.
PHOENIX BIOS: Graphics Adapter Error. Replace Graphics Adapter.
AWARD BIOS: No Video Card Found or Bad Video Memory. Replace Video Adapter.

Re: Help needed
If you guys ever get those beeps from your computer turn it off and post here with the beep trend and I'm happy to tell you what's up. No need to waste your time with self-diagnostics if the bios is telling you what's wrong.
