The Average PC Gamer's Rig, As Of December 2009

Postby [SCUM] OUTLAW » 09 Jan 2010, 09:44

Earlier this week, Valve released the latest set of data from their regular hardware survey, revealing just what kind of hardware the average PC gamer is packing these days.

Here are the major findings: you prefer Intel systems to AMD, you prefer NVIDIA graphics cards to ATI, and the majority of you now have at least a dual-core system.

So,why do you prefer Nvidia to ATI ?

Did Valve post the methods of data collection? Did they take from only a certain area of the country or did they sample data at several points in the world?

I'm very suspicious of published data sets unless they include the method of sampling. General Motors published data that their auto sales for the Chevy Equinox was up 23% but they dropped all their data sampling for the western, northern and eastern states. Turns out the data they published was only from Texas and Arizona. When all the sampled data were included sales were down 33%.

Would be interesting to see the method Outlaw.

From Valve

"Each month, Steam collects data about what kinds of computer hardware our customers are using. The survey is incredibly helpful for us as game developers in that it ensures that we're making good decisions about what kinds of technology investments to make. Making these survey results public also allows people to compare their own current hardware setup to that of the community as a whole."

So i assume its from everyone using steam ?

Nice breakdown of everything...
