Laptop reqd

Postby [SCUM] DeathWish » 25 Nov 2008, 12:54

Primevially for McPhil but I'll open it up to the rest of you bright sparks.

I need a laptop that can drive 3 screens, that is the laptop screen and two external screens up to resolutions of 1280x1024.

I know all new laptops can drive 2 screens its own and monitor but dont know of any that can drive 2 external screens.

Any clues anyone ?

no not permenant. dont like the idea of a splitter, we have tried that before and its a hardware nightmare.

found something from Dell XPS 1730M, at £1199 hmm a bit expensive I feel, but does the job.

Don't buy Dell. HP is better on aftermarket parts. Dell you're stuck buying Dell.

I am using this splitter right now:

They have a dual head model too:

They are a bit pricey but you can go low cost on the notebook and get a Matrox multi head product with it. I have a lot of mobile clients using these with no issues.

yeah we got one of those Matrox splitters. I think it sucks, but that could be eneptitude to making these things work well.

Plus it makes the back of the machine look a bit messy and this is going to be on display at a conferance.

I have looked at HP, but couldnt find anything that has a dual DVI. I wonder if my freinds who work for Sony can come up with anything.

If it's going to be in one place and you never move it, can't you have maintenance cut a couple of holes in the table top and put in plastic grommets and then run the cabling under the table? If the table is an open face table, you can easily mount the hardware to the bottom of the table with two screws and zip tie the cabling tight enough to have no slack in it so it fits tightly against the under side of the table?

temporary m8 for 5 days only.

Plus why cant I just get a laptop rather than mucking about with add-ons. Someone did point me in the direction of USB plug in graphics that runs multiple monitors.

something called "displaylink" I think.
