Live Battlefield 1943 Q&A on Thursday

Postby [SCUM] OUTLAW » 16 Jun 2009, 18:15

EA DICE bigwigs Patrick Liu and Gordon Van Dyke will answer your Battlefield 1943 questions live on Eurogamer this week.

Lift-off is this Thursday, 18th June, at 4pm BST (UK time).

Questions can be submitted to the DICE chaps through a moderator, and their answers will appear promptly on the same page. We'll pop a placeholder article up an hour before lift-off to stockpile some questions.

So, what will you ask? Battlefield 1943 is a more accessible re-imagining of Battlefield 1942, and due for release this summer on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, with a PC version to follow. And remember, BF1942 is where the series - and arguably the reputation of DICE - began.

Seven years on, DICE is underpinning Battlefield 1943 with the latest technology to present a stylised, clutter-free Pacific theatre. Three maps - with a possible fourth - and three classes are on offer, ensuring the learning curve is comfortable.

For around a tenner - 1200 MSP (GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40) on XBLA, USD 15 on PSN - DICE hopes to attract as many old and new fans as possible.

Are they waking up from their psycho-aid binge and putting in more than 3 maps?

ahem, now now outlaw, remember its not 4, at least not until there has been 56 560 or so kills, which according to the dev's will take about 3 weeks, so you dont get access to the 4th map (which is a dog fighting map) till you rack up the kills :P (its not often i get to correct outlaw so I went for it :D)

Actually its 43 million kills and its the Coral Sea map,so that makes 4 maps !

I got a feeling though that their gonna release map packs to keep itgoing though.

PS3 and XBOX360 should be out very soon now,PC version out in September.

:P

To me it just dirties the effort of gaming. Why put out all the regs and requirements and control. Why not just put the game out there charge the 25 or 30 quid for it and support it for a couple of years adding a couple of few 10 quid map packs for download... Gaming is getting to complex. Make it simple and people will play it.

I will NEVER pay a subscription to play a game. Activision have proven themselves time and time again to be complete and utter idiots with game launch dates versus paper release dates. It wouldn't surprise me to see them making a tit decision to increase the difficulty level and gaming costs to play some of their games.

Its out and its good :)

Feels just like 1942 but jazzed up alot !

If you played Bad Company you'll know what to expect,if you played 1942 you'll know what to expect and more ,no more hiding in a bunker or building !

Message to the PC Gamer(s) Following BF1943's Development
Dear PC Gamer(s),

I know you might feel disappointed about the PC release being in September rather than June, but you should be very happy to know this is to give us the proper development time to create a proper PC version of Battlefield 1943 and not a console port. To the contrary of some less informed fans out there this is in no means an intentional ploy to punish our PC fans. And is in fact quite the opposite, we want to make the best damn PC version we can for our PC fans!

Not to bore your eyes out with endless text about the how's and do's I will say to make this a proper PC version we need a completed core game to develop over and remember we already released Battlefield Bad Company with the Frostbite Engine on the consoles, so this will be first PC game ever released using Frostbite! PCs are an open platform requiring additional features, support, technical consideration, and can't just be thrown out there using copy/paste. We have thought very carefully about this decision and in the long run felt it was the right choice even though we knew we'd catch some flak for it, but we feel once you play the first Frostbite PC game ever from DICE you'll see why we put this extra time and care in on the development making all right again in the universe. I hope this helps clear things up better and answers your concern(s).

Sincerely,

Gordon Van Dyke
Battlefield 1943 Producer

One thing to add though, the console versions do seem a little Simplistic but you do get right into the action and hardly ever have nothing to do.

Why doesnt spellcheck work anymore ?
