Nanny state strikes again.

Please sign this if you enjoy driving/riding on the open road at a decent speed.....

The government is planning to reduce the national speed limit to 50 miles per hour.

More badly thought out legislation which they try to legitimize by additionally labelling it as a [bogus] "green" initiative. Always tax rather than incentivize. Hopefully the next terrible government in power might have more sense...for a while.

Strangely my riding instructor was complaining I was too slow sometimes...(passed btw)

This won't get voted in. Nor will a petition change it if they do.

Should go to the G20 protests and shout about this and see how quickly I'd get beaten up by the sandal brigade

Mind you if I was going into the city this week I'd go sans stockbroker pinstripe and go super-toff with bowler/top hat/cane/chesterfield and if someone bothered me I'd shout some anti-capitalist slogan and they'd think I was a protestor

This is only for single carriage roads (ie. nice country roads) not motorways :P

What happens when you get to a bend at 80mph McPhil?

I would allow this to happen if they were REALLY serious about road safety change. Like raising the motorway speed to 80mph and making roads past schools 20mph zones. Jesus I should run for transport minister, could do a damn better job than the 3 musketeers (Jim Fitzpatrick being my main direction of hate) do.

Speed isn't the main problem, driver education and training is IMO. Just slowing everyone down does nothing but frustrate and dumb down drivers.
