Playstation Home beta to launch tomorrow
THIS IS A BIG DEAL...
Been on the closed beta for months now and its really good, think of Second life and you're nearly there..
ony will open PlayStation Home to the world tomorrow as the open beta finally gets into gear.
The game client will be free. Once downloaded, a Home icon will pop up in the PlayStation Network column of the XMB. While the service will be free there will be some paid-for content, such as extra clothes and accessories.
Europeans will be able to explore a Far Cry 2-themed environment, and Sony hopes to make areas for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Warhawk, Motorstorm and SOCOM available soon.
In the future, there will be partnerships with and themes from companies such as EA, SEGA, Eidos and Midway.
Fashion label Diesel will offer up some trendy togs, while furniture designer Ligne Roset has all sorts of upholstery collections to make your house stand out from the crowd.
Red Bull is hosting a virtual flying challenge where you get to be the pilot. This will take place on the Red Bull Island.
More importantly, Paramount Studios, Eurogamer TV and Hexus TV will be showing their wares in the Home Theatre. That means Johnny Minkley will be offered alongside trailers and interviews for films such as Watchmen, which actually looks quite good. Johnny Minkley also looks good, of course.
If only Big Phil Harrison were here to smash the bottle on the hull. At least Kaz Hirai had something to say, specifically: "PlayStation Home is truly a promising network community service on the PlayStation platform, made possible with the powerful combination of PS3's overwhelming computational power and PlayStation Network that covers many countries around the globe." Phew.
Oh, there's more: "We are committed to providing PS3 users with exciting gaming experiences with PlayStation Home and together with our partners and users, expand the new world of interactive entertainment as we move forward."

Re: Playstation Home beta to launch tomorrow
you know, i'm still not sold on Home yet, but i'm still very much open to anything that pushes easier connectivity and community building. i think Home has a lot of interesting things it could be doing, but i'm wondering if it will actually be utilized?
secondly, i always doubt the public's ability to use a medium like this for anything useful outside of porn or money making. with that in mind, simpler solutions seem to be the better solutions (ie. the Xbox experience, etc. which i actually really enjoy)
what do you think outlaw, think it'll take? can you see yourself using this?

Re: Playstation Home beta to launch tomorrow
Been on it since day one,the premise is great, and when we were testing it the thing had lots to do but little content, the plans they have for it are huge with corporate workspaces etc but the one thing i am interested in in the "ClanSpace".As a clan you can buy a Huge "House" where all member can meet and chat in real-time over bluetooth or txt and plan strategies for games ,share artwork/pics and videos ,loads of stuff, theres an arcade to play the games ,movie theatre to share u vids etc ,and an arena where u can go and view live presentations from various publishers and dev, think ubisoft holding one showcasing their new titles.
So if they can get all that into it ,yes it could be could,oh the trophy room is huge, like the imperial senate in the Star wars trilogy and all the trophies are 3d models.

Re: Playstation Home beta to launch tomorrow
if there was ever a company evil enough to run the matrix, it could be sony. Their love of high prices and low quality products, with the psp screen that scratches on air and the like, i would feel pretty vulnerable if i was in the sony matrix, if anyone id like panasonic or samsung to build it please.
community building is great fun, its why places like habbo hotel was so big. as long as pretty much everything is customisable, people will use it, i like having my own 'space' where clan buddies can come in.
best thing would be to have a 'house channel' for comms? if this is possible i would think higher of them.
