Just as a design concern, if the engine is farther front of the tails on each supporting craft, what's to keep the rocket engine from burning off the tails of the supporting crafts? Perhaps it'll be released and and glide until the supporting crafts are cleared?

Interesting idea. Who goes and gets them if an accident occurs? Private industry emergency space rescue and recovery services? Oh right, that doesn't exist... Rock on private industry! Innovation without safety!
