what do you think of my new system

Postby mackemforever » 30 Oct 2008, 18:50

I am starting to put this together and will hopefully have it done in about 3 weeks or so.

MSI P45 Neo-F
Q6600 core 2
4Gb of OCZ platinum 800MHZ DDR2
Leadtek GeForce 9800GTX+
Samsung Spinpoint 500Gb
Coolermaster CM690
Antec Earthwatts 500W PSU

Will be about £550 and I think its pretty good.
Also gonna be using a method for cooling it that is very good but very underused.
Basically it is a large plastic tub, 15 litres of baby oil and submerge everything except the hard drives and disk drives in it. It may seem like it should fry it but the oil is such a bad conductor of electricity but a good enough conductor of heat that it works brilliantly, and it is completely silent :P

blackout, the oil cooling is done by basically taking everything out of the case and submerging it in the oil in a large plastic tub. I am buying a case as I may or may not decide to continue with the oil cooling, and as for the fans, you don't need any except the CPU cooler really.
And Outlaw, 500W is enough for that system if the Q6600 is one of the GO energy efficient ones although I may end up with a 550 or 600W PSU instead, not sure at the mo, depends on how far my budget will stretch :P

lol, it may sound weird but I have tested it on my current computer in the past couple of days and it has completely sorted out the overheating problem I was having.
The only problem was trying to buy 15 litres of baby oil, I got some strange looks in boots.

Hang on a minute!

Your telling me you have put your motherboard (everything plugged in) into a bucket of oil and it works? What about the power supply?

I can sort of see why its very underused!

I've got a similar setup but with 2xHd, 2xDVD and lots of fans and it runs fine on a 620W supply.
